Baby Blue

The wreaths wilt
Byres in landfills.
Ink has dried.
News cycle vultures to
the latest cant.

It was a better world
before the wrong people.
It shined, it sparkled.
Mistakes were made.

Might as well proclaim
we are all hezbollah now.
Might as well await the bombs.

Bleating about empire
and civil liberties
lambs prepare for the wolf.

I remember chewing gum before
guns in the classroom.
I remember hands over heart.
It will be over someday
and the wrong people
will admit nothing.
